Mona Shafique is a Birmingham-based Creative Director, bilingual writer, poet, spoken word artist, performance producer and heritage storyteller with over 20 years of experience across the arts, culture, media and community sectors.
Writing and performing in both English and Urdu, her work explores themes of identity, migration, memory, belonging and the stories that connect people across generations. Through poetry, oral history, performance and creative engagement, she creates spaces where communities can share experiences, celebrate heritage and find their voice.
Mona is the Founder and Creative Director of RAQS Art, a community arts organisation dedicated to storytelling, heritage, culture and creative health. She is also the Founder of Filmishilmi, a media and entertainment platform celebrating arts, culture and South Asian creativity, and serves as Editor and Celebrity Host at Star9, an entertainment and media platform powered by Jazba Entertainment.
Her work spans community arts, media, cultural programming, event production and public engagement. Over the years, she has produced, curated and hosted a wide range of cultural events, festivals, exhibitions, performances and heritage projects, working with artists, community organisations, local authorities and national partners across the UK.
As a writer and performer, Mona draws inspiration from lived experiences, family histories and the richness of diverse cultures. Her storytelling blends poetry, memory and heritage, creating work that is both personal and deeply rooted in community.
Whether on stage as a spoken word artist, behind the scenes producing events, interviewing public figures, facilitating workshops or preserving oral histories, Mona is passionate about creating meaningful connections through arts and culture.
