International Women’s Day

This year we had the privilege of bringing together many inspirational women under one roof at our heritage space, Bethak, to mark International Women’s Day 2026 during the blessed month of Ramadan.

The evening centred around reflection, connection and celebration of women’s voices. Guests took part in creative art sessions inspired by the International Women’s Day theme, offering a calm and reflective moment during Ramadan. The activity allowed women to pause, express themselves artistically and share conversations around resilience, community and collective strength.

We were honoured to be joined by remarkable guest speakers whose journeys continue to inspire many.

Salma Bi widely recognised as a Grassroots Cricket Champion in Birmingham, shared her powerful story of dedication. Over the past 15 years, Salma has worked tirelessly to make grassroots sport – particularly cricket – more inclusive and accessible for women and young people.

We were also delighted to welcome Bakhtawar Mir, Head of Chancery at the Pakistan Consulate Birmingham, whose presence highlighted the importance of women’s leadership and representation within diplomatic and international spaces.

Joining us as well was Amara Amjad, spouse of Consul General Fahad Amjad, whose support for community engagement and cultural initiatives continues to strengthen ties between communities.

The evening was further enriched by the presence of artist Shameem Akhtar celebrating creativity as a powerful form of expression and connection. She led therapeutic art sessions inspired by the International

Together, through conversation, creativity and shared Iftaar, the gathering reflected the true spirit of International Women’s Day — celebrating women’s achievements while strengthening community and solidarity.

A heartfelt thank you to all the incredible women who joined us and contributed to such a warm, meaningful and uplifting evening.
