Shehrbano Ka Ranjha
Inspired by the timeless folklore of Punjab, Shehrbano Ka Ranjha is an original multidisciplinary theatre production by RAQS Arts, presented as part of the Spirit of Pakistan Festival 2026 at Midlands Arts Centre (MAC), Birmingham.
Bringing together live music, storytelling, poetry and dance, the production reimagines Punjabi folklore for the contemporary stage. Exploring love, longing, memory, identity and human connection, it celebrates the richness of Punjabi heritage while bringing traditional stories to new and diverse audiences.
Meet the Artists
Mona Shafique | Writer & Producer
Mona Shafique is a bilingual writer, producer, storyteller and Artistic Director of RAQS Arts. Her work brings together theatre, heritage and multidisciplinary performance, creating original work rooted in culture, identity and storytelling.
Ali Shair | Ranjha & Bansuri
A bansuri player and student of raag-based music, Ali brings South Asian classical traditions into contemporary performance. His live flute becomes the voice of Ranjha throughout the production.
Ravneet Kaur | Shehrbano & Dance Artist
A multi-award-winning performer, actor, model and choreographer, Ravneet combines traditional and contemporary dance with a deep connection to Punjabi culture.
Qasim Shah | Live Music
A UK-based classical vocalist and musician, Qasim trained in sitar and surbahar before developing his work in classical vocal music. His live performance adds depth and atmosphere to the production’s musical storytelling.
Sabir Masih | Tabla Artist
A percussionist and tabla artist from a Pakistani musical family, Sabir’s work is rooted in South Asian classical traditions. His expertise spans tabla, dholak and naal, with performances across the UK and internationally.
